curriculum

Curriculum

At Grace we use Thompson's Scope and Sequence as the basis for our preschool curriculum.  We use Starfall for our kindergarten curriculum for language arts, social studies and science.  Saxon Math is our adopted math curriculum for kindergarten.  Our curricula build an early childhood program that allows children to grow and develop as Jesus did - in "wisdom and stature" and in "favor with God and man" (Luke 2:52). Children's growth is a process, not an event.  The Scope & Sequence, Starfall and Saxon curriculum provide guidance and activities in each unit to help each child develop language, reading, writing, math and other foundational skills, appropriate to his or her stage of development.
Handwriting Without Tears curriculum is used in the PreK and Kindergarten classes.  We have also adopted the reading readiness aspect of the A Beka Book.  In the "Letters & Sounds" component of A Beka, the children will recognize letter shapes and learn their sounds.  The basis of reading is learning the sounds the letters make, and A Beka focuses on that skill.
